She also spreads her wings as a shield of protection over her son, Horus. For thousands of years, Isis has embodied the sacred work of gathering what has been broken, restoring what has been scattered, and protecting the vulnerable.

As I painted her, I found myself reflecting on the death of Joan Sebastián Guerrero. His death invites us to grieve not only one precious human life, but to ask what becomes of us when fear and division cause us to forget our shared humanity. In the ancient myth, Isis searches tirelessly for the scattered pieces of Osiris so that he may be made whole again. I wonder if this is also our work: to gather the lost parts of ourselves - our compassion, our courage, our willingness to recognize ourselves in one another.

The Knot of Isis (Tyet), resting upon her brow, symbolizes her wisdom, magical power, and boundless maternal love. It reminds me that healing is an act of remembering that no one is disposable. Every life carries inherent dignity, and love can be a force for restoration as well as protection. May we all find the courage to spread our own wings a little wider, holding space for grief, justice, and the possibility of renewal.

back to all prints

Originally created with acrylic & Terra di Colori paints.
